Allah Almighty has blessed human beings with countless blessings, the greatest of which is intellect. It is this intellect that distinguishes humans from all other creatures and enables them to harness the forces of the universe. Not only this, in fact, humans blessed to govern the universe (world) with the same intellect. Because of that Allah (Subhanahu Tallah) says in Holy Quran “indeed the evidence is for people of understanding”. Intellect directs humans to act upon the laws of nature. As long as man continued to use it wisely, he kept uncovering the secrets of the universe and he continued to play his part in the struggle to conquer the universe. But gradually, man began to rebel against the laws of nature, which led to the emergence of various types of crimes in the world. Among these unnatural acts is a major social evil that has affected not only the Muslim world but every country across the globe, and that is the growing use of drugs. In the present era, students in educational institutions are the most affected by this epidemic. This article explores the causes behind the rising trend of drug abuse in academic settings and examines how, in the light of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) life, its prevention can be made possible. The Prophet’s (PBUH) noble life teaches us that he guided his Ummah away from intoxicants by considering human psychology and offering a wise and compassionate approach to moral training.
