This research explores the significance of mutual consultation (shura) between spouses as a cornerstone of Islamic family life, drawing on Qur’anic injunctions and the practical example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). While not mandatory in all matters, consultation is strongly recommended to foster mutual understanding, trust, and emotional stability within the family. The study emphasizes that effective consultation hinges on mutual respect, calm dialogue, and a willingness to compromise, which are essential for nurturing harmonious marital relationships. By analyzing relevant Qur’anic verses and Prophetic traditions, the research illustrates how spousal consultation aligns with Islamic values of cooperation and empathy. In contemporary contexts, reviving this practice can significantly reduce marital conflicts, promote equitable decision-making, and strengthen familial bonds rooted in love and respect. The study also addresses challenges to implementing consultation, such as cultural barriers and gender stereotypes, and proposes practical strategies to overcome them. By integrating Islamic teachings with modern family dynamics, the research underscores the timeless relevance of shura in addressing domestic challenges. It concludes that spousal consultation is not merely a religious ideal but a practical tool for building resilient families capable of navigating modern complexities. This approach empowers both spouses, particularly women, by ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making processes, thereby contributing to a balanced and harmonious household.
