The exegesis of the Qur'an occupies a prominent position in Islamic sciences, serving as a means to comprehend, articulate, and clarify the themes and practical dimensions of the Holy Qur'an. Across various eras, exegetes have interpreted the Qur'an based on their scholarly backgrounds, societal conditions, and intellectual orientations. These interpretations not only illuminate beliefs, worship, and ethics but also present unique and ijtihadi perspectives on topics such as culture and civilization. Particularly in Urdu tafsir literature, exegetes have addressed numerous subjects in a distinctive manner, considering the specific socio-cultural context of the Indian subcontinent. These individual interpretations by exegetes not only reflect their intellectual breadth but also affirm that the Qur'an holds a timeless and universal message adaptable to every era and civilization. However, a critical evaluation of these interpretive views is essential to ascertain whether the exegete's opinion aligns with the general spirit of the Qur'an and Sunnah or is influenced by temporal or personal biases. This research aims to present a critical analysis of the nature, foundation, and impact of cultural interpretations found in Urdu tafsir literature. For instance, regarding the veil for women, particularly the face veil, Islamic teachings are clear, emphasizing modesty and protection of women's dignity. Critics argue that modern interpretations denying the veil as a religious obligation stem from Western influence, contradicting Qur'anic verses and Hadith. The study concludes that such unique views must be scrutinized to preserve the Qur'an's eternal guidance.
