This study provides a comprehensive introduction and analysis of selected exegeses (Tafsir) from the Indian subcontinent, focusing on the methodologies, styles, and characteristics of these works. The Indian subcontinent has a rich tradition of Quranic interpretation, with scholars contributing significantly to Islamic scholarship through their unique approaches and interpretative frameworks. This study aims to explore the intellectual diversity and depth of these contributions by examining key exegeses from this region. The methodologies employed by scholars in the Indian subcontinent are diverse, reflecting a range of theological, linguistic, and cultural perspectives. Some exegeses emphasize linguistic and grammatical analysis of the Quranic text, while others focus on contextual and historical interpretations. Additionally, there are works that incorporate philosophical and mystical dimensions, offering a holistic view of the Quran's message. By analyzing these varying approaches, the study highlights the pluralistic nature of Quranic interpretation in the region. The styles of exegeses from the Indian subcontinent are also varied, ranging from concise commentaries to extensive, multi-volume works. Some scholars adopt a narrative style, weaving Quranic stories with moral and ethical lessons, while others prefer a more analytical approach, dissecting each verse with meticulous detail. This stylistic diversity enriches the tradition of Quranic exegesis and demonstrates the adaptability of Islamic scholarship to different intellectual climates. One of the significant contributions of scholars from the Indian subcontinent is their ability to address contemporary issues through their exegeses. By relating Quranic teachings to the social, political, and economic contexts of their time, these scholars have made the Quranic message relevant to successive generations. Their works serve as a bridge between classical Islamic thought and modern challenges, providing valuable insights for both scholars and lay readers. Through a detailed examination of these exegeses, this study sheds light on the intellectual richness and diversity of Quranic interpretation in the Indian subcontinent. It underscores the importance of these works in the broader context of Islamic scholarship and highlights the enduring legacy of scholars from this region in contributing to our understanding of the Quran.
