Abstract

This study delves into the concept of the authority of Hadith (ḥujjiyat-e-Ḥadīth), a cornerstone of Islamic jurisprudence and theology, exploring its significance in shaping Islamic thought and practice. The research examines the historical development of Hadith as a primary source of Islamic law alongside the Quran, analyzing the methodologies employed by scholars to establish its authenticity and reliability. It discusses the criteria for Hadith verification, including the scrutiny of narrators (isnād) and content (matn), and evaluates the role of Hadith in addressing contemporary issues within Islamic scholarship. The paper highlights the contributions of classical and modern scholars in defending the authority of Hadith against criticisms and misinterpretations, emphasizing its indispensable role in deriving legal rulings and ethical guidelines. By reviewing key texts and scholarly debates, the study underscores the dynamic interplay between Hadith sciences and Islamic intellectual traditions, offering insights into how Hadith continues to guide Muslim communities globally. This comprehensive analysis reaffirms the enduring relevance of Hadith as a divinely inspired source, complementing the Quran in providing a robust framework for Islamic belief and practice, while addressing challenges posed by modernity and skepticism.
