Abstract

This study examines the Tafsir school of Hazrat Ibn Abbas (RA) and its significant contributions to the sciences of the Quran, particularly focusing on Asbab al-Nuzul (Causes of Revelation). Ibn Abbas, a distinguished companion of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), is celebrated for his profound understanding of Quranic exegesis. His interpretative methodology provides a foundation for comprehending the historical and contextual factors that influence the verses of the Quran. This research highlights the importance of Asbab al-Nuzul in shaping the understanding of divine revelation, emphasizing its role in the interpretation of the Quran's message. The findings indicate that many Quranic verses are inherently linked to their causes of revelation, suggesting that knowledge of Asbab al-Nuzul is essential for accurate Quranic interpretation. Additionally, the study reveals how understanding the context of revelation can clarify ambiguities in the verses, prevent misinterpretations, and identify the individuals or groups addressed by specific verses. Furthermore, it discusses the broader contributions of Ibn Abbas's school to Islamic scholarship, reinforcing the notion that Asbab al-Nuzul is a crucial component in the study of Quranic sciences, providing insights that enhance the comprehension and application of the Quranic text in various contexts.
