Abstract

This research articale explores the historical existence of Quranic readings (Qirāʾāt) during the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions, focusing on how these readings were taught, preserved, and transmitted. The study investigates the significance of these diverse recitations, revealed to the Prophet (ﷺ) through the angel Jibreel, and their relevance in the era of the companions. By analyzing key prophetic traditions (Ahadith) and scholarly interpretations, the paper clarifies the divine purpose behind these variations, emphasizing that they aimed to facilitate ease for the diverse linguistic capacities of the early Muslim community. Moreover, the research reflects on the ongoing significance of these Quranic readings in contemporary Islamic scholarship and practice, asserting their validity and continued relevance. The study also addresses modern challenges and misconceptions regarding Quranic recitations, reaffirming their preservation as a divine mandate.
