The study of i‘rab (grammatical inflection) in Arabic plays a crucial role in understanding the syntactic and semantic aspects of language. This research focuses on ma'rab words, which are characterized by their ability to change their ending according to grammatical context. The paper delineates the two primary forms of i‘rab: i‘rab bil-haraka (inflection through vowel markings like fatha, kasra, and damma) and i‘rab bil-harf (inflection through specific letters like waaw, alif, and yaa). Through an analytical lens, the research evaluates how these forms influence the meaning and grammatical function of ma'rab words in Arabic syntax. The significance of this study lies in its contribution to a deeper understanding of Arabic morphology and its implications for both native speakers and learners of the language. By examining classical and contemporary sources, this paper aims to shed light on the intricate relationships between form, meaning, and function in Arabic grammar.
