Abstract

The sanctity of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ holds a central place in Islamic faith, making it a core element of every Muslim's belief system. This paper explores the concept of protecting the Prophet’s ﷺ sanctity, analyzing contemporary challenges and requirements. It begins by outlining the fundamental principle that love and respect for the Prophet ﷺ are intrinsic to a Muslim's faith. Historical responses to blasphemy are reviewed, highlighting instances where the Muslim Ummah collectively defended the Prophet’s ﷺ honor. The paper delves into the definition and implications of blasphemy, examining significant cases and the subsequent actions taken by Islamic societies. Islamic jurisprudence concerning the punishment for blasphemy is discussed, providing insight into traditional and contemporary legal perspectives. Furthermore, the paper addresses the recurring incidents of blasphemy in the West, exploring the underlying motivations and the Western viewpoint of freedom of expression. It questions whether Muslims themselves can be guilty of blasphemy and under what circumstances. The contemporary situation is analyzed, identifying the current challenges and the necessary steps required to safeguard the sanctity of the Prophet ﷺ.
